Simone Biles

Simone Arianne Biles (/sI'moUn 'baI@lz/; born March 14, 1997)[4] is an American artistic gymnast. Shannon Miller holds the record for the most Olympic medals awarded by an American gymnast with seven. She also ranks equal ninth in total. Biles is widely believed to be the best gymnast of all time, having won 25 World Championship medals. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Biles received individual gold medals in Rio de Janeiro's 2016 Summer Olympics. Bronze on balance beam, vault, and all-around were her medals. Biles also won bronze in the United States Team, which was known as"the "Final Five". She withdrew from the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics due to "the twisties" the air balance disorder that temporarily affects her ability to control her balance. Biles ultimately took home a silver medal with the US team and bronze on balance beam. She was praised for her partial withdrawal, persistence, and focus on safety, mental and mental health. She has also been a five-time World all-around champion (2013-15, 2018-19), five-time World floor exercises champion (2013-15 and 2018-19) Three-time World balance beam champion (2014-15 and 2019) Two-time World vault champion (1918-19) 2021), seven-time United States all-around champ (2013-16 and 2018-19, then 2021) and a member of the gold medalists on the American team at the 2014, 2015 and 2018 World Arts Gymnastics Championships. She also is three-time World silver medalist (2013, 2014 on vault, 2018-2019 on uneven bars, 2018-2019 on uneven), and a three-time World bronze medalist (1915 on vault and balance beam in 2013, and 2018-2019 on vault). Biles is the world's most accomplished gymnast (25) and the World's most gold-medalled (19). Biles has now surpassed Vitaly Scherbo, who holds the record for the most World medals. Biles won both 24th and 25th gold medals at the 2019 Stuttgart competition in Stuttgart. Biles is the only female gymnast who has earned the most World all-around title (5). She is the sixth female to earn an individual all-around title at both the World Championships and the Olympics, and the first gymnast since Lilia Podkopayeva in 1996 to hold both titles simultaneously. She is the tenth American female gymnast and the first American female gymnast, to earn a World medal for every event, and she was the first gymnast from a female since Daniela Silivas (1988), to win a medal at every Olympic Games or World Championships. Biles was the third of of four siblings, born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14th 1997. The four kids were all placed into and out of foster care. When Shanon's grandchildren were being cared for in foster homes, Ron Biles (Biles' maternal grandfather) and Nellie Cayetano Biles (his second wife) began to temporarily care for Shanon in Spring, Texas. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Ron's sister Shanon as well as Shanon's aunt Harriet, adopted their two children.
